Master Peace is the most ambitious sculpture of Kevin Box’s career. It consists of one thousand origami cranes cast in museum quality metal. Inspired by the Japanese “Senbazuru”, it is the action of creating one thousand origami cranes within a single year. The crane resembles the archetypal image of the human soul and has become recognized as a symbol of peace. Kevin and his wife Jennifer created this monument together. All 1,000 cranes were cast in 2013, the work was completed in 2014 and installed for the first time at the Santa Fe Botanical Garden on Museum Hill.
Master Peace the monument gathers 500 cranes into a freestanding monument 25 feet tall. The other 500 cranes are being scattered as individual pieces around the world and are represented in the gathering monument by their reflection in the polished, black granite base. Some installations will be over reflecting pools of water. This monument to Peace is engineered to come apart for travel to exhibitions around the world.
